Maya Phillips Testimonial
When I was invited to travel abroad with GLI, I did not know what to expect. I was unfamiliar with the social history of Rwanda, as well as the intricacies of international development.
Upon our arrival in East Africa, I was struck by the genuine connections GLI had fostered with locals and their steadfast commitment to 'Listen. Think. Act.' The Global Classrooms team embraced my travel cohort's challenging questions and encouraged us to stretch beyond conventional thinking. Our discussions spanned from light-hearted to vulnerable, and from comforting to convicting. It was an enriching bonding experience as well as an incredible opportunity for self-reflection.
I left Rwanda with new perspectives on my Americanness and a transformed understanding of truth, healing and reconciliation. Traveling and working alongside GLI Global Classrooms team has underscored the importance of global citizenship and has helped deepen my relationship with Pan-Africanism and humanitarianism. The Global Livingston Institute's impact on my life has been profound, and I am abundantly grateful to be a part of their legacy!
