During the spring semester of 2019, a capstone team from the Cornell Institute for Public Affairs (CIPA) partnered with staff from the Global Livingston Institute (GLI) and Staffable Africa on designing a remuneration survey for organizations working in the sectors of social impact and social enterprise 1n Kampala, Uganda.

Community reintegrating former child soldiers in Northern Uganda
Livelihood approaches have been the mainstay of FCS community reintegration programs (Beard, 2014). These interventions take into account “social ecology” and equip the FCS with subsistence resources and skills beyond psychosocial intervention.

In the fall semester of 2017-2018 academic year, two student consultants from Cornell Institute for Public Affairs - Enknhzul Altangerel and Carolina Araya Chaves - worked on viability study of bakery business in Lira, Uganda, as part of an ongoing research project on reintegration of Former Child Soldiers (FCS) in Uganda.
Women and Workforce Literature Review
New Faces New Voices, an advocacy group that focuses on getting women involved in the financial sector in Africa summed up some of the effects of social impact investing on women specifically. The report stated that “women-owned businesses in Africa are growing at a faster rate than women-owned businesses worldwide.”
Staffable Impact Review
We collected all data through a survey/interview format. The survey was conducted with 50 Pizza Hut employees and we recorded individual responses by hand by having a dialogue with each employee to ensure the questions were translated correctly.
Collaborative Community Development in Southern Uganda
The purpose of this project was to interact with community members in East Africa to discern problems facing the community and how the Global Livingston Institute and other organizations can be of assistance. In order to meet the needs of a community, it is crucial to determine what those needs look like.
